(August 5, 2004) - Bobby Gill and Lamb
& Robinson Motorsports have reached an agreement that will place
the three-time Hooters ProCup champion behind the wheel of the No. 06
USG Sheetrock Brand Ford, which was previously driven by Joe Gaita,
for the remainder of the season.
"We felt like we needed to make some changes, and we’ve
brought on Bobby Gill to finish out the season," said team owner
James Mosley. "Joe and I go back a pretty good ways, but we felt
like we needed to make a change to find out where we stand, and Bobby
was the perfect choice."
Gill
is currently second in points, just 65 points behind Clay Rogers, in
the Southern Division and has three wins in 2004. Gill holds the all-time
record for ProCup wins with 37 victories. Shane Huffman is the closest
among active drivers to Gill in wins with 13.
"Bobby has been struggling in the pits and keeping his cars up
of late, because he’s been doing it by himself," said Mosley.
"We’ve got a great crew that can pick up some positions in
the pits. We feel like this could be a good mix when the Championship
Series comes around. We were kind of in a rut, running fifth or sixth
each week. We think this should get us up front each week. I think the
world of Joe, and I’m happy because it looks like he’s been
able to find a ride."
Gaita, who currently sit fifth in Southern Division points, landed
the vacant seat at Odle Motorsports earlier this week.
"Right now, we are going to run Peach State and Bristol with Joe
and see how things go," said team owner Darin Odle. "Hopefully,
we can keep Joe up in the points. If things go well, we’ll race
Joe in the Championship Series. Joe is one of the nicest guys you could
ever meet, and it will be a pleasure to race with him. U.S. Insurance
and Speedco Truck Lubes said they were behind us, and we’re going
to do our best to help Joe out."
Gaita and Odle Motorsports will make their debut in the Southern Division
in the Pep Boys 250 this Saturday. Gaita will drive the No. 42 U.S.
Insurance Group/Speedco Ford formerly driven by Brian Ross in the Northern
Division.
